Biografia

Dopo il diploma all’’Istituto Statale d’Arte di Forlì, Matteo Lucca studia scultura all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna.
Fin dai suoi esordi Lucca mostra una inclinazione all’ecelttismo nella sperimentazione di materiali: realizza cicli di opere in piombo modellato a sbalzo, la serie “Faces”, a metà tra maschere funebri e teatrali, la sequenza di assemblaggi di tessuti e installazioni di grandi barche colorate.
Le sue opere sono sempre accompagnate da composizioni scritte: che suonano come questa: “Ad ogni nodo un mantra, una parola d’amore, una domanda, un segreto da tenere nascosto lì, ogni nodo lega a sé un’idea che trasforma e si irradia”.
A metà tra lo scultore e il poeta, Lucca coltiva la passione per il teatro-danza e per la performance (IT ME and YOU, 2009), oltre che l’attitudine alla sperimentazione di materiali diversi, con cui realizza maestosi totem primitivi, opere intrise di grande spiritualità arcaica, come “The ancestor that is in me” del 2010, un autoritratto in legno, piombo e tessuto che è un tributo votivo alle proprie origini.
After graduating at the ”Art Institute of Forlì, Matthew Lucca studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.

Biography

Since his debut Lucca shows an interest in eclecticism and the experimental process of trial materials and creates cycles of artwork using lead shaped cantilever, the series “Faces”, a cross between theatre and funeral masks, the sequence of the assembly of the materials and the settings of large colourful boats.
His artwork is always accompanied by written compositions: they sound like this: “On every knot there is a mantra, a word of love, a question, a secret to be kept and hidden, each knot has tied to itself a concept that transforms and radiates.
“Halfway between being both the sculptor and poet, Lucca had a passion for dance-theatre and performance (IT ME and YOU, 2009), as well as the ability to experiment with different materials, with which he made majestic primitive totem artwork which is imbued with deep and archaic spirituality, like “The Ancestor That Is in Me” in 2010, a self-portrait made out of wood, lead and fabric which is a votive tribute to his origins.
