Edite Grinberga - Luce Errante

Sabato 12 Novembre 2016 alle ore 18.00, si inaugura presso la Galleria Stefano Forni di Bologna Luce errante, la prima personale bolognese dell’artista Edite Grinberga. Saranno esposti venti dipinti tra tele di medie e grandi dimensioni. Grinberga, di origine lettone da anni residente a Berlino, è artista di caratutra internazionale, ha al suo attivo esposizioni in importanti gallerie ed è presente nelle più importanti fiere europee ed americane. Le sue opere sono esposte in permanenza in numerose collezioni private e in prestigiosi musei.

Luce e ombra nella loro continua evoluzione dialettica sono il tema centrale dei dipinti di Grinberga. Nelle sue raffigurazioni di interni e nature mortel’artista evoca momenti di tranquillità che raccontano viaggi e storie di vita con l’ausilio di una pittura che ricerca la luce attraverso le ombre. I dipinti suggeriscono una presenza umana solo metaforicamente, ma le persone al di fuori del quadro-spazio e gli eventi che si verificano prima e dopo il momento raffigurato sono i veri protagonisti del suo lavoro. È attraverso il mezzo della luce che il flusso del tempo viene visualizzato. Il modo in cui la luce sembra cadere accidentalmente è parte della sua composizione meticolosamente pianificata.

Oggetti di uso quotidiano, come ad esempio una sedia, un libro o un capo di abbigliamento, sono rappresentati in linea con la tradizione della pittura fiamminga del XVII secolo, ma in modo del tutto contemporaneo. Gli oggetti riportati in uno spazio immaginario sono pretesti per un racconto, ci stimolano la memoria dei nostri vissuti, delle nostre fantasie oniriche. Un passaporto su un letto o una valigia aperta in una stanza vuota ci possono fornire indizi criptici sulla nostre vite o quelle di persone sconosciute.

Edite Grinberga è nata a Riga, in Lettonia, nel 1965. Ha studiato presso la Janis Rozentals Riga Art School dal 1975 al 1982 e pittura e disegno presso l’Accademia Statale d’Arte di Riga a partire dal 1983. Ha esposto in Germania, Svizzera, Stati Uniti, Lettonia, Georgia e Russia.

Light and shadow in their ever-changing dialectic are the core theme of Grinberga’s paintings. In her depictions of interiors and still life motifs, Edite Grinberga conjures up quiet moments recounting various trips and the past with with the aid of a painting that search light through the shadows. The paintings suggest a human presence only metaphorically, but the persons outside the picture-space and the events occurring before and after the depicted moment are the real protagonists of her work. It is through the medium of light that the flow of time is visualized.

The manner in which light seems to fall accidentally is part of her meticulously planned composition. Everyday objects, such as a chair, a book or a piece of clothing, are showcased completely in line with the tradition of Dutch 17th century paintings but nevertheless in a contemporary fashion. The objects shown in an imaginary space are pretexts for a tale, they stimulate us the memory of our experiences, our dreamlike fantasies. A passport lying on a bed or an open suitcase in an empty room provides cryptic clues about our life or the life of an unknown person.

Edite Grinberga was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1965. She was a student at Janis Rozentals Riga Art School from 1975 until 1982 and studied painting and textile design at the State Academy of Art in Riga as of 1983Since 1990 she has lived and worked in Berlin. In 2011 she spent some time at the Santa Fe Art Institute in New Mexico, USA, in connection with a scholarship.
